You may have noticed that this web
site has quite a number of articles by the late Corey Rudl of
the Internet Marketing Center
fame. And I am sure that my site is not the only one around. As
such, Corey had already left one of his many legacies on the
Net.
In my
personal tribute, you will know how much he had shaped my
life and my online business ventures. But to the rest of the
world, Corey had literally changed the face of Internet
marketing since he founded the IMC back in 1997.
Naturally, being such a high
profile personality,
some of Corey's techniques may not be to everyone's liking. Some said he does
not object to (or even promote) spamming, but in the early days
(mid-1990s), there
were still arguments about what constitutes a spam, and spams were like
10 a day.
Some said most of his tips were 'black hats' (i.e., trying to
trick the search engine and so forth), but in those days, the search
engines were so rudimental that you don't really have to be a SEO expert
to trick them.
But the real
point here is that Corey had inspired and helped thousands of people to succeed
in the Internet. His business model was the most copied. In fact,
majority of Internet Marketing web sites today employed his
sales and content model. I don't think I would be too wrong to
assume that 90% of Internet Marketing websites today uses at
least one of Corey Rudl's marketing
techniques.
And his
affiliate program is still one of the most popular programs around for
many years. I bet that the first thing that came to the mind of his
thousands of affiliates was what will happen to his business and
affiliate program, the program that have enriched so many worldwide.
Of course, his famous Insiders' Secrets Internet
Marketing Course was revised several times to be in line with the latest
rules and regulations of the Internet. At least he is up-to-date and
sincere, unlike some of today's so-called gurus who still preach spam
and black hats strategies even in mid-2000s.
Love him or loathe
him, Corey was and will always be the first Internet marketing
'superstar', and his
legacy will live on the
Internet long after his passing.
In fact, some of his other legacies on the Internet marketing world that I can think of
today are as follows:
-
Long Long Sales
Page - Most Internet Marketers today imitated the initial IMC
frontpage, which is literally one very long sales page (apparently, the
uncertified world record is a 81-page written by..., who else, but Corey).
-
The Sevens -
$297, $197, $157, $147, $97, $57, $47 - product price tag that is now used by all and
sundry, for a reason it seems.
-
Complete Automation -
Corey was the first I reckon to encourage full automation of your
web business when so many of us were still doing it manually, and
today, perhaps, taking for granted, like the autoresponder or
accepting credit card.
-
Backend and
Up-Sell - Almost every payment page today has a deluxe or
complementary product to add-on to your order (i.e., up-sell), or
after the initial sale, you are presented with anther product (i.e.,
backend).
-
Affiliate
Program - In the early days, most of us thought only a company
like Amazon can provide an affiliate program, but Corey proved to us
that even a one-man business can introduce one, and a better one as
well (i.e., two-tier affiliate program).
Long Live Corey Rudl!
